Key facts for Czechia buyers, as of October 2026

— Duty depends on the exact tariff line and qualifying origin; the specified code examples range from 0% to 7%.

— Czech import VAT is 21%, but the clearance and importer route affect where it is due and how it is accounted for.

— A used GB machine’s CE history and engine approval must be settled for that machine.

— Plant-health control depends on both a listed code and agricultural or forestry use.

— Public-road registration and individual approval depend on the machine’s category and intended use.

— Seller VAT evidence and the live transport arrangement belong in the plan before shipment.

Sources are listed at the end. The buyer’s customs agent and the named authorities settle the machine-specific points.

How does the route change for machinery in Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the EU?

As of October 2026, the place of importation is the Member State where goods enter the European Union, or, under external transit, where that procedure ends. A Czech delivery address does not by itself decide where import VAT arises.

Great Britain stock needs a third-country import plan. Machinery already in EU circulation follows a different customs and seller-VAT route. Northern Ireland stock depends on its actual status and movement evidence rather than defaulting to the Great Britain route.

That distinction matters before transport is priced. The importer, declaration point and any transit belong together, while the seller’s country and the machine’s origin answer different questions.

We’d put the stock location and customs status at the top of the purchase file. If either changes, the route decision may change even though the make, model and asking price stay the same.

UK and European machines can differ in specification and documentation, so the source market matters as well as the asking price. Check the stock’s status, invoice treatment, EU entry and any transit with the seller, tax adviser and buyer’s customs agent before payment.

What should I confirm before buying a machine for the Czech Republic?

For the October 2026 position, the purchase file starts with the serial number, importer, buyer status, proposed ten-digit code, claimed origin, current location and intended work. The CE plate, declaration, instructions, engine plate, air-conditioning details and any road-use plan belong beside them.

Earlier agricultural or forestry work is a separate part of the identity. It matters alongside the tariff line when plant-health scope is considered. The seller’s invoice treatment and export evidence also need to refer to the same unit.

A UK VAT-registered seller may zero-rate an export only when the goods leave the UK and valid export evidence is held within three months of the time of supply. The seller may require a VAT deposit while waiting for that evidence.

We’d use one short decision table rather than a loose document folder. The question, evidence, person answering and date can sit beside each open point, with the serial number linking every answer to the offered machine.

The risk and workload differ when a buyer uses an agent rather than buying direct. An independent seller check belongs before any money moves. Check the invoice, code, origin, conformity, use history and intended road use with the seller, its tax adviser, the customs agent and the relevant authority before commitment.

What duty and Czech import VAT apply to used machinery?

As of October 2026, TARIC shows 0% third-country duty and 0% GB preference on 8429 52 10 for a track-laying excavator. It shows 4.5% third-country duty and 0% GB preference on 8427 20 11 and 8427 20 19 for telehandlers.

Specified tractor codes do not share one rate. TARIC shows 0% on 8701 91 10 and 8701 93 10, and 7% on 8701 91 90, with 0% GB preference shown on those lines. Those examples do not classify the offered machine.

Any preference still depends on qualifying UK origin and acceptable proof. Buying from a British seller does not prove origin. The make, model, serial, configuration and origin material need to support the line and preference used for the declaration.

The Czech standard VAT rate is 21%, and the published 12% reduced-rate list does not show a machinery line. The import-VAT base includes customs value, duty and incidental expenses such as commission, packing, transport and insurance to the first destination, plus known onward transport.

Czech Financial Administration guidance distinguishes a Czech VAT-registered payer from a non-payer at import. The actual importer’s reporting, payment and representation arrangements remain buyer-specific.

We’d keep duty, origin and VAT as three separate decisions. A percentage belongs to a code, preference belongs to qualifying origin and proof, and VAT belongs to the import and importer route.

Check the live line, measures, origin proof, import-VAT base and reporting route with the buyer’s customs agent and Czech tax adviser before relying on a landed treatment.

Does a used GB machine need CE marking and compliant engine evidence?

As of October 2026, EU product law can apply when used equipment from a third country enters the Union market for the first time. Protection for a particular machine already placed on the UK or EU market before transition ended depends on its history.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies on a mandatory basis from 20 January 2027. Česká obchodní inspekce carries out Czech machinery market surveillance. Neither point turns age or earlier British work into a complete answer.

The EU non-road-engine rules apply at first making available on the Union market. The stage, transition history and any replacement route for a particular used GB machine remain machine-specific. Charged cab air-conditioning creates a separate, unresolved F-gas evidence question.

We’d begin with clear photographs of the machine plate, engine plate and cab equipment, then match the declaration and instructions to those identifiers. A satisfactory record for one component does not settle the other two.

A pre-purchase inspection can match the serial, plates and condition to the documents before commitment. Check the placing history, CE evidence, declaration, instructions, engine approval and F-gas route with the manufacturer, Česká obchodní inspekce, the competent authority and buyer’s customs agent before payment.

Does used farm or forestry machinery need plant-health clearance?

As of October 2026, the plant-health list covers specified machinery and vehicles operated for agricultural or forestry purposes. Both the listed code and earlier work matter.

Annex XI Part A includes specified lines under 8432, 8433, 8436 and 8701. It contains no line under 8429, 8427, 8426, 8474 or 8502. That comparison does not classify the actual machine or replace its written use history.

A regulated consignment uses TRACES and a CHED-PP, and the consignee must be registered and validated. The Czech designated entry points are not on the normal sea-and-road journey from Great Britain, so a regulated machine would ordinarily be checked at the first suitable EU entry point.

The actual border post and any controlled onward movement remain route-specific. Czech authority pages also conflict on whether wood packaging is described under ISPM 12 or ISPM 15, leaving the applicable evidence unresolved.

We’d put the proposed code beside the written work history and photographs of the undercarriage and attachments. That gives the plant-health and route discussion one machine record rather than an assumption based on appearance.

Check scope, the border post, pre-notification, CHED-PP, onward movement and packaging standard with ÚKZÚZ, the first-entry authority, customs agent and forwarder before booking.

Does the machine need Czech road registration or individual approval?

As of October 2026, Czech public services provide a route for registering a special vehicle and a route for individual approval of an imported vehicle. They do not establish that every machine is registrable, and they do not support the reported age condition.

Customs release, product admission, plant-health clearance and road use are different decisions. The actual category, approval, inspection, documents and intended public-road use remain machine-specific.

We’d decide the intended road use while comparing machines. A unit that suits private-site work can become a different purchase when the buyer needs public-road registration or individual approval.

Check the category, approval, inspection, documents and current conditions with the competent Czech registration office before purchase.

What export, customs-system and transport checks belong in the plan?

As of October 2026, an economic operator not established in the EU registers for EORI where it first lodges a customs declaration. The Czech ad hoc route is only for non-entrepreneur natural persons.

Since 18 May 2026, e-Dovoz/AIS has been the Czech import-declaration system. Its free web client is limited and does not accept declarations made in representation of legal persons. The filer and any transit closure therefore belong in the route decision.

On the UK side, the seller’s invoice treatment, exporter, evidence and any VAT deposit belong to the handover. The invoice, serial number, collection record and export evidence should identify the same machine.

Sailings run, but the current schedule, route, abnormal-load acceptance and insurance are operational details. The measured dimensions, weight, attachments and loading condition determine the transport question placed before the forwarder.

We’d use the serial number as the thread through the invoice, export record, declaration references and booking. That makes each party’s handover easier to follow without reconstructing the file later.

Check the declarant, system route, seller evidence, measured transport details, acceptance, permits, insurance and current schedule with the seller, buyer’s customs agent and chosen forwarder before collection.

Pre-purchase checklist

Before committing to used machinery for the Czech Republic:

— Name the importer, customs agent and intended place of clearance.

— Give the agent the machine identity, proposed ten-digit code and origin evidence.

— Collect the CE plate, declaration, instructions, engine plate and air-conditioning details.

— Record earlier agricultural or forestry use and settle any plant-health, CHED-PP, entry-post and packaging requirements.

— Establish the category, approval, inspection and public-road document route.

— Agree the UK seller’s export-VAT evidence or the EU seller’s invoice scheme.

— Give the forwarder measured dimensions and obtain current acceptance, permit and insurance terms.

— Keep the buyer’s customs agent responsible for filing and clearing the Czech import declaration.

We’d keep every answer beside the serial number and proposed invoice. A change of machine, importer or route means the affected answer needs revisiting.

Working with a buying agent who already does this

Euro Plant Finder works on the sourcing and export side. We find machinery in the UK and Europe, check the seller, arrange inspection, negotiate for the buyer and coordinate the available identity, condition and export-side evidence.

The buyer’s own customs agent files the Czech declaration and clears the machine. The relevant authorities decide conformity, plant-health and road-use questions. We keep the seller and transport parties aligned with the information those advisers need.

Our practical focus is the handover between the machine, its documents and the people responsible for admission. A clear serial and plate record helps everyone answer for the same unit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I import used machinery from the UK to the Czech Republic?

As of October 2026, name the importer and give the buyer's customs agent the machine's serial details, proposed ten-digit code, origin evidence and route. Great Britain stock needs an EU import plan, while machinery already in EU circulation follows a different customs and seller-VAT route. Northern Ireland stock needs its actual status checked. Settle duty, VAT, conformity, engine, plant-health and road-use questions before payment, and have the agent agree the declaration point and any transit.

How much duty and VAT will I pay on used machinery in Czechia?

As of October 2026, the Czech standard VAT rate is 21%. TARIC examples range from 0% to 7% third-country duty, but each figure belongs to an exact code and does not classify your machine. Any GB preference depends on qualifying UK origin and proof. The import-VAT base includes customs value, duty and specified incidental expenses. Ask the customs agent for the live code, measures and origin decision, and ask the Czech tax adviser how the actual importer reports or pays VAT.

Does a used excavator from Britain need CE marking in the Czech Republic?

Age or earlier work in Britain does not settle the route. As of October 2026, EU product law can apply when used equipment from a third country enters the Union market for the first time. Protection for a machine previously placed on the UK or EU market depends on its history. The engine route is machine-specific, and charged cab air-conditioning may require F-gas evidence. Ask Česká obchodní inspekce, the manufacturer and the buyer's customs agent to review the actual unit before purchase.

Does used agricultural machinery need a phytosanitary certificate for Czechia?

It depends on both the exact code and agricultural or forestry use. As of October 2026, specified lines under 8432, 8433, 8436 and 8701 appear in the plant-health list, while no line under 8429, 8427, 8426, 8474 or 8502 appears there. A regulated consignment uses TRACES and a CHED-PP. Ask ÚKZÚZ and the first-entry authority to decide scope, the border control post and packaging evidence, because Czech pages conflict between ISPM 12 and ISPM 15.

Do I need Czech EORI and a customs agent?

As of October 2026, an economic operator not established in the European Union registers for EORI where it first lodges a customs declaration. The Czech ad hoc route is only for non-entrepreneur natural persons. Czech import declarations use e-Dovoz/AIS, and the free web client cannot accept declarations made in representation of legal persons. Those rules do not by themselves appoint an agent. Name the importer, declarant and representation arrangement in writing before the machine moves.

Does a used mobile machine need Czech road registration?

The answer depends on the machine and its intended use. As of October 2026, Czech public services provide a route for registering a special vehicle and a route for individual approval of an imported vehicle, but they do not show that every machine is registrable. They also do not support a reported age condition. Give the competent Czech registration office the machine's identity and proposed public-road use, and ask it to specify category, approval, inspection and documents before purchase.

Can Euro Plant Finder handle Czech customs clearance?

Euro Plant Finder works on the sourcing and export side. We find machinery in the UK and Europe, check the seller, arrange inspection and coordinate the available machine information, export documents and freight interface. The buyer's own customs agent files the Czech import declaration and clears the machine. Czech and first-entry authorities decide customs, conformity, plant-health and road-use questions. We keep the seller and transport parties aligned with the information those advisers request.
