What's different about Saudi Arabia
— Part 3 lists fork-lift trucks under heading 8427; an excavator route cannot be borrowed for the forklift.
— The after-installation and before-use certificate wording does not settle what must exist before dispatch, arrival and use.
— On 23 October 2026, no route had been established for a forklift too large for a standard container.
Will the forklift fit a documented Saudi shipping route?
We’d compare the measured travel configuration with the available carrier route before treating it as usable. A seller’s model name does not give the mast position, attachment width or final travel size.
As of 23 October 2026, Maersk update 51 accepted dry containers to Jeddah and King Abdullah. The same notice suspended out-of-gauge bookings to Jeddah, King Abdullah, Dammam and Al Jubail.
A route for a forklift too large for a standard container was not established by 23 October 2026. The forwarder needs measured length, width, height and weight with the mast and attachments in travel position. Fuel or battery state also forms part of the cargo description.
Before purchase, ask the forwarder or carrier to accept the measured forklift, named route and fuel or battery treatment in writing.
What certificate timing applies to this used forklift?
We’d treat the after-installation wording as a before-use rule, not shipment permission. It does not tell a buyer what must exist before dispatch.
As of October 2026, Part 3 Article 6/3 requires the supplier of used lifting equipment in scope to obtain an inspection certificate from a notified body approved by SASO. Article 6/4 places that certificate after installation and before the equipment is put into service.
The inspection place and complete certificate sequence remain unsettled for the selected forklift. A buyer’s condition inspection is separate from the accepted body’s conformity certificate. Our Saudi SASO inspection guide explains the wider location and certificate-order questions.
Before shipment, ask the Saudi broker and SASO-accepted body to state the inspection place and the documents needed at dispatch, arrival and before use.
Which Saudi category covers this forklift?
We’d start with the forklift’s plate, mast and attachments because they decide which live route must be tested. SASO Part 3 Annex 1-B includes heading 8427, described as “Fork-lift trucks, trucks fitted with lifting or handling equipment”.
SABER displays the updated and approved codes. The exact 12-digit code, scope and conformity route still need a unit-specific answer. An excavator or telehandler description cannot settle the forklift’s route.
Before committing, ask the Saudi broker and SASO-accepted body to confirm the live code, Part 3 scope and treatment of every attachment.
What information should the forklift seller provide?
We’d begin with a clear plate photograph, model, serial number, year and intended use. That seller pack identifies the forklift that will be inspected and shipped. Condition photographs should show the mast, forks and every supplied attachment.
The seller should measure the forklift in travel position and state its weight. Fuel or battery details let the forwarder describe the cargo being offered. This seller list is practical buying advice, not a list prescribed by Saudi authorities.
An independent condition inspection can photograph the plate, mast and attachments before collection. See how we source construction machinery for Saudi buyers.
From the buyer's-agent side
We ask the seller for a sharp plate photograph, serial, year, mast and attachment photos, fuel or battery details and measured travel dimensions. We compare the seller’s figures with the forklift as it will be collected. Those details go to the Saudi broker, SASO-accepted body and forwarder before the sale is fixed.
Before the sale is fixed, ask the seller or inspector to give the Saudi broker, accepted body and forwarder the same measured configuration.
Which wider Saudi import points still matter?
We’d start by separating the wider importer, age and tariff gates from the forklift-specific route. A workable purchase needs a licensed Saudi importer, the exact model-year position and the live 12-digit tariff line. The model-year answer was unsettled in October 2026, so neither a number nor “no limit” is safe. Our Saudi machinery import guide covers those wider importer and customs steps. The buyer’s Saudi broker must answer them for the selected forklift.
Before you buy a used forklift for Saudi Arabia: six checks
Gather these answers before the seller releases the forklift:
— Record the forklift’s plate photo, model, serial number, year and intended use.
— Give the broker the exact configuration and attachments, and have the accepted body check the live Part 3 and SABER scope.
— Settle the inspection location and the documents required at dispatch, arrival and before use with the broker and accepted body.
— Have the Saudi broker check the lawful importer and live tariff line before the sale is agreed.
— Obtain the exact model-year position in writing from the Saudi broker and SASO or SABER.
— Measure transport dimensions and weight, state the mast, attachments and fuel or battery condition, then obtain written carrier acceptance through the forwarder.
Working with a buying agent on the Saudi forklift hand-off
Euro Plant Finder checks the UK or European seller, arranges a condition inspection and coordinates plate, attachment and measured transport details for a Saudi forklift. We pass the export-side information to the buyer’s Saudi customs broker, SASO-accepted body and forwarder. The broker handles declaration and clearance; the accepted body decides conformity, and the forwarder or carrier decides transport acceptance.

Can I import a used forklift from Europe into Saudi Arabia?
A used forklift has a conditional Saudi route, not automatic permission. Part 3 includes heading 8427, and covered used lifting equipment needs an approved-body inspection certificate. The actual code, importer, model-year position and tariff line still need answers for the selected unit. If its measured travel size exceeds a standard container, the forwarder must establish a current route before purchase.
Does a used forklift need a SABER certificate?
Part 3 Article 6/3 requires an approved-body inspection certificate for used lifting equipment in scope. That supports a certificate requirement for a covered forklift, but the live 12-digit code still controls the route. The after-installation timing does not give permission to dispatch first. Use our Saudi SASO inspection guide for the wider certificate questions, then obtain the selected forklift’s sequence from the broker and accepted body.
Is the forklift inspected before shipping or after installation?
Part 3 Article 6/4 puts the certificate after installation and before the forklift enters service. It does not answer where the inspection happens or which documents must exist before sailing. Timing alone is not shipment permission. Those dispatch, arrival and before-use points need one unit-specific answer.
Which model years of used forklift can be imported?
The applicable model-year position was unsettled for this forklift in October 2026. Neither a numerical limit nor a claim that no limit exists is safe. A general answer for used equipment is not enough because the model, year and configuration matter. Obtain a written answer for the selected forklift from the Saudi customs broker and SASO or SABER before committing.
Do the mast and attachments affect a Saudi forklift purchase?
Yes, because the Saudi and transport questions apply to the forklift in its supplied configuration. The mast and attachments help the broker and accepted body test the live code and Part 3 scope. Their travel positions also change the dimensions offered to the forwarder. Give all three parties clear photographs, attachment details and measured travel dimensions before the sale is fixed.
